RPS secures contract to support Nigeria Morocco gas pipe project

RPS, a global consultancy, has been granted a contract to provide support for the Nigeria Morocco gas pipeline project, it said on July 12.

In partnership with the Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines (ONHYM) and Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), RPS will undertake offshore meteorological and oceanographic data measurements along the proposed pipeline route for one year. The acquired data will play a pivotal role in vital decision-making during the development phase, the company said.

The project's primary objectives include unlocking the region's natural gas resources to enhance economic growth, improving energy security, and supporting the global energy transition by providing access to cleaner fuels. The pipeline project is supported by OPEC with the cooperation of 13 countries in West Africa. Additionally, the pipeline offers a new and alternative export route to Europe, strengthening trade ties and regional cooperation.

"We are looking forward to supporting ONHYM and NNPC to gain a greater understanding of MetOcean conditions in this region. Our team has become well-known for our ability to provide accurate, reliable data; our services will support vital decision-making in the development of this prestigious project,” Anthony Gaffney, RPS MetOcean director – UK/EAME, said.

RPS's global MetOcean team will utilise their workshop facility in Newbury, near Reading, UK, to ensure the provision of support to the project.
