Repsol Bunkers Vessel with Carbon-Offset LNG
Energy company Repsol has bunkered a Swedish-flagged ship with 420 m3 of LNG in the Spanish port of Cartagena, it said March 12. Repsol said it was the first time it had done so while offsetting all the future CO2 emissions from the LNG, which it achieved by cancelling Voluntary Carbon Market credits.
The four-hour operation was carried out for the Fure Vinga and used LNG operator Enagas' LNG facilities.

Following a regulatory change, Spanish ports are now able to compete with other European ports in this area, said Repsol. So far Repsol has been supplying LNG from trucks; but it is also developing two LNG terminals at the ports of Bilbao and Santander.
"This is a further step towards the goal of becoming a zero net emissions company by 2050, offering ship owners the possibility of making their commercial routes more efficient and environmentally friendly," it said.
The operation was enabled also by adaptations funded by the LNGas Hive project, co-financed by the European Commission, led by the Spanish port authority and co-ordinated by Enagas. The initiative has led to the adaptation of Spanish regasification terminals for the supply of LNG to ships.
