Reports: GDF Suez, Novatek Eyeing Repsol LNG Assets

The sale of Spanish company Repsol's LNG assets has drawn interest from at least two European gas companies, it has been reported, with both Novatek and GDF Suez confirmed to be considering the assets.

In an interview with Bloomberg published today, CEO of GDF Suez, Gerard Mestrallet said that his company had reviewed the assets on offer from Repsol in the context of GDF Suez's similiar assets. However, as of yet, he told the magazine, no offer had been decided on for the assets.

"We haven’t yet decided to put an offer on the table," Bloomberg reports the CEO as saying.

GDF Suez is the second major European gas company to confirm its interest in the assets so far this week, with Novatek yesterday confirmed to also be considering the assets . However, as with GDF Suez, nothing concrete has been decided upon, CEO of Novatek Leonid Mikhelson said yesterday.

"The Repsol assets are of interest to us, but we are not in talks," Reuters reports him as saying.

Repsol has been seeking to sell a number of its LNG assets since earlier this year, in a bid to bring down the debt of the company. Among the assets up for grabs are LNG projects in Trinidad and Tobago, Canada and Peru.
