Qatar Petroleum keen on North American shale gas

Qatar Petroleum has plans to invest in shale gas resources in North America, company’s CEO Nasser al-Jaidah said.

The company is also eyeing investments in Russia's Yamal gas project, QPI's chief executive said.

Last week, QPI signed a memorandum of understanding with British utility Centrica to look at joint investment opportunities in new or existing projects in upstream oil and gas including LNG, gas storage as well as combined-cycle gas turbine generation assets and downstream opportunities.

Australian LNG sector is another area where the company could look for investments in the future.

Australia is important but is crowded and expensive, and if right opportunity were there, we would be more than happy to participate, he said.
