Power of Siberia 93% Complete
Russia’s Gazprom September 5 said that more than 93% of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline is complete.
“A total of 2,010 km of pipes are already welded and laid for the Power of Siberia gas pipeline between Yakutia and the Russian-Chinese border. This translates into 93% of the pipeline length,” Gazprom said. Power of Siberia’s two-string submerged crossing under the Amur river is 78% complete, with pipe pulling currently in progress in the second tunnel. Pipeline tests, installation of power supply, communications and telemetry systems, and start-up and commissioning is expected to happen next year, Gazprom said.
The Power of Siberia gas pipeline will carry gas from the Irkutsk and Yakutia gas production centres to consumers in Russia’s Far East and China. In 2014, Gazprom signed a 30-year contract with CNPC for the supply of 38bn m3/yr of gas via the pipeline. First gas is expected to flow into China at the end of 2019.
