Pomerania Holds Most Prospective Shales

Attending a meeting of the Provincial Council for Energy Security in Gdansk, Paweł Poprawa, Chief Specialist & Head of Petroleum Geology Laboratory at the Polish Geological Institute, said that Pomerania has best prospects in Poland when it comes to shale gas reserves.

Poprawa said that his opinion and comments were based upon positive indications of drilling undertaken by BNK Petroleum as operator for Saponis Investments Sp Z o.o., conducted on the Lebork S-1 well, on the Slupsk concession and the Wytowno #1 well, on the Slawno concession.

"In the case of these two wells the company has indicated that the occurrence of natural gas and gas is of good quality. Also, it seems that the first results are very optimistic."

BNK owns 26.6 per cent of Saponis, with the rest held by Rohöl- Aufsuchungs Aktiengesellschaft (RAG), Sorgenia E&P SpA and by LNG Energy through a subsidiary. BNK is one of six companies that have concessions to search for unconventional gas deposits in Pomerania.

To date, Poland has issued 87 licenses for exploration of unconventional gas deposits.
