Poland Turns to Germany for Russian Gas Imports
Gazeta Wyborcza reports that Poland will commence the import of Russian gas from Germany to take advantage of lower pricing.
State owned gas monopoly PGNiG is reported to be paying about 15 percent less for the Russian gas it imports indirectly, than for the gas it imports directly from Gazprom.
Radosław Dudziński, vice president for strategy at PGNiG, told Wyborcza, “we are trying to optimize imported gas purchases and since a possibility of buying cheaper gas from Germany than Russia materialized, we took advantage of it.”
PGNiG has been attempting to negotiate a reduction in the price that it pays to Gazprom, setting a now past deadline of October 31st to achieve a resolution, failing which it said it would seek arbitration as outlined in the contract between the parties.
