Poland Picks up Spot LNG Cargo

UK utility Centrica will deliver a spot cargo of US LNG to PGNiG's import terminal at Swinoujscie on December 13, the third spot delivery there this year, the Polish state-run incumbent said. This is in addition to the cargoes that Centrica is to deliver under a supply contract for nine cargoes over five years.

The Hoegh Gallant vessel will arrive in Poland carrying about 65,000 metric tons of LNG, or about 90mn m³ of pipeline-pressure gas.

PGNiG's CEO, Piotr Wozniak, said that the company was "consistently building a portfolio of LNG contracts that is diversified not only in terms of supply directions, but also contract terms. Therefore, beside signing long-term and medium-term contracts, we are still interested in favourable offers on the spot market".

The delivery will be the third spot one this year and the seventh since the terminal was launched. PGNiG has received 45 LNG cargoes at the terminal so far, sourced in Qatar, Norway and the US. 

In the first nine months of the year PGNiG imported 1.96bn m³ as LNG, accounting for 18% of all its imports. A year earlier, the respective figures were 1.33bn m³ and 13%.

In 2018, PGNiG signed three long-term LNG supply contracts with US-based companies Venture Global and Cheniere, according to which they are to deliver a total volume of just under 70m mt. Deliveries from Cheniere are due to start in 2019, while LNG from Venture Global will be available from 2022 and 2023, once the company’s two liquefaction terminals in the Gulf of Mexico come on-stream.
