Poland Progresses on Nabucco Supply Deal
Quoting an anonymous Warsaw government source, Gazeta Wyborcza reports that Poland has brokered a deal on talks with Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan to supply Caspian gas to the Nabucco Gas pipeline. Participation by those two countries is critical to the EU backed project.
Ambassadors of EU countries in Brussels on Wednesday agreed on a mandate for the European Commission to negotiate with Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan agreements on gas supplies for Nabucco.
The accord drafted by Poland, would empower the bloc's executive European Commission to start negotiations in September.
Poland recent ascended to the EU presidency. Energy security, including the development of unconventional resources, is a focus for the Polish presidency.
