Poland: Enea Denies Any Shale Gas Deal with PKN Orlen Under Consideration
Polish energy firm Enea has today denied reports that it was planning to make a deal with fellow Polish energy company PKN Orlen to explore for and develop shale gas activity in Poland.
Enea was motivated to make the denial after Polish newspaper Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reported today that the two companies were close to signing a deal to explore for shale gas, with a deal expected within two months.
However, Enea said today that no such deal was under consideration. "We categorically deny the information from Dziennik Gazeta Prawna," a spokesperson for the company said.
The company said it would not rule out cooperation on shale gas in the future. Poland has recently increased its focus on shale gas exploration. Last month, four Polish companies, PGNiG, Tauron, KGHM and PN signed a deal for cooperation on shale gas exploration.
The deal followed the encouragement of the Polish government, including Minister of Treasury Mikolaj Budzanowski, who urged Polish companies to work together on the countries shale activity.
