PGNiG Asks Gazprom for Clarification on Reduction of Gas Supplies

Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo (PGNiG) said it could take active steps in response to the reduction in Russian natural gas supplies with respect to the ordered volumes and has asked Gazprom for clarification. 

‘Under the Yamal Contract, PGNiG may order gas supplies up to a maximum daily amount specified in the Contract. The volumes of gas ordered by PGNiG were lower than the maximum volumes, and therefore compliant with the provisions of the Contract. The reasons behind the reduced gas deliveries are being investigated. PGNiG has not yet received any information from Gazprom concerning the reasons behind reduced gas supplies to Poland,’ reads a note released on Friday. 

PGNiG said there is no need to use gas kept in its underground storage facilities, explaining it is compensating the gap with additional gas supplies from Forest (Germany), Cieszyn (Czech Republic) and Mallnow (Germany).

However, on Wednesday, Gazprom said that it is supplying gas to Europe in line with its contractual obligations. 

‘Alexey Miller reported to Vladimir Putin that European consumers were receiving gas supplies entirely in line with contractual obligations. The total accumulated gas supplies for export exceeded the planned amount by 3 billion cubic meters by early September,’ reads the note released  by the Gazprom, adding that its priority now is gas injection into its own UGS facilities. 

Meanwhile, Ukraine asked Europe to intensify its measure against Russia. 

‘It is important that despite the politically motivated trade restrictions Russia adopted against the EU, the European Parliament calls for further increasing pressure on Russia and confirms the position that the international community will not recognise the illegal annexing of Crimea and the attempts at creating quasi-republics in Donbas,’ reads a communiqué published on Friday by Ukraine’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
