PGNiG drilling unit lands first contract in Tanzania
Exalo Drilling, a subsidiary of Polish gas company PGNiG, has secured its first drilling contract in Tanzania, it said on July 6, covering work at the offshore Songo Songo gas field operated by Canada's Orca Exploration.
Exalo has been hired to workover two wells and drill one sidetrack well. It will begin the work in September using the IRI 1200 RIG#202 rig, which is being prepared for mobilisation. The rig will be transported from Pila in Poland to the port of Gdynia, where it will set off for Africa in mid-July.

Songo Songo is situated around 15 km from the Tanzanian mainland. Exalo said acquiring a new business customer was a "huge success" for the company. While new to Tanzania, Exalo has worked elsewhere in north and central Africa. Other than Poland, it has also had contracts in Kazakhstan and Pakistan.
Orca is working to maintain gas output at Songo Songo through well workovers and the installation of additional gas compressors. NGW interviewed the company on its activities in July last year.
