Petronas, ConocoPhillips, Shell to Develop Offshore Malaysian Gas Field

A joint venture of state oil firm Petronas, ConocoPhillips and Royal Dutch Shell will develop the Kebabangan gas field located offshore Sabah in East Malaysia, the company said Monday.

Kebabangan Petroleum Operating Co. is 40% owned by Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd., while ConocoPhillips Sabah Gas Ltd. and Shell Energy Asia Ltd. own 30% each.

The field is located in water depths of 100-400 meters and is included in the Kebabangan Cluster Production Sharing Contract.

According to the company, the project will include a 12-well, two-phase drilling campaign and the fabrication and installation of an integrated drilling and production platform with living quarters.  The platform will be located on the edge of the continental shelf in 140 meters of water depth, with a gas export capacity of 825 million standard cubic feet a day and oil export capacity of 80,000 stock tank barrels a day.

Oil and gas from the field will be exported via 135 kms of pipelines to the Petronas Carigali-operated Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal under construction at Kimanis in Sabah state.

First production is expected at the end of 2014.
