Peru LNG inaugurates second LNG truck loading station
Peru LNG on June 13 announced the inauguration of its second LNG truck loading station, enhancing its capability to distribute LNG via trucks, often referred to as "virtual pipelines." This new station allows for the transportation of natural gas to ten regions in northern and southern Peru.
The currently operational station has a supply capacity of 18 trucks/day and 126 trucks/week, benefiting over 250,000 residential and commercial users. To date, more than 21,049 trucks have transported gas to northern regions (Lambayeque, La Libertad, Ancash, Cajamarca, Ucayali, and San Martín) and southern regions (Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna, and Cusco).
With the addition of this new infrastructure, Peru LNG will double its supply capacity, reaching up to 36 trucks/day from the LNG plant.
Jaime Risco, general manager of Peru LNG, stated, “The infrastructure for truck dispatch is essential to continue guaranteeing reliable supply to all regions that currently receive it and expand so that new regions can receive it.”
Peru LNG's assets include a natural gas liquefaction plant with a processing capacity of 4.45mn tonnes/year, a 408 km pipeline, two 130,000 m³ storage tanks, a marine terminal spanning 1.4 km, and two truck loading facilities.
In April, MidOcean Energy, a subsidiary of EIG, completed an agreement to acquire a 20% interest in Peru LNG from SK Earthon, a unit of SK E&S. Operated by Hunt Oil Company, Peru LNG is one of only two LNG production facilities in Latin America, located in Pampa Melchorita, approximately 170 km south of Lima.
