Pertamina Drills 52 Wells in Mahakam Block

Pertamina July 16 said its subsidiary, Pertamina Hulu Mahakam, has drilled 52 wells in the Mahakam block during the first six months of the year. Company’s target is to drill 118 wells by the end of 2019.

The company said that at present decline rate has dropped to 25%, from 57% in 2017. Meanwhile, the company has started preparing for 2020 drilling programme. 

Pertamina Hulu Mahakam took over the operatorship of Mahakam block, one of the largest gas producing areas in Indonesia, from French Total and Japanese Inpex in early 2018. Total and Inpex operated the block for five decades.

Most gas from Mahakam is supplied to Indonesia's giant Bontang LNG export plant, and then shipped as LNG to customers in Japan and elsewhere.
