Perenco launches first gas-to-industry supply project in Cameroon
Independent oil and gas producer Perenco on July 11 announced the launch of its first gas-to-industry supply project, delivering gas from the Bipaga gas processing centre to the ceramic manufacturing plant of Keda Ceramics.
The gas is being transported via a 6-km pipeline built and operated by the state-owned Societe Nationale des Hydrocarbures (SNH) and is used to power the factory's electrical generators and the kilns necessary for ceramic tile manufacturing. Following the commissioning phase, the factory is expected to consume up to 6mn ft3/day.
The gas supply from the Bipaga processing centre is governed by a gas sales contract signed in September 2022 between Perenco Cameroon and SNH, ensuring a 20-year gas supply.
“Perenco Cameroon’s first gas-to-industry project marks an important milestone and strengthens the fruitful and historic partnership between Perenco Cameroon and SNH,” Yves Postec, MD of Perenco in Cameroon, commented. “The delivery of gas to Keda Ceramics builds upon our successful track record of project delivery in collaboration with SNH in Cameroon, such as the 20-year production sharing agreement for Rio del Rey signed last year and our joint contract for Golar LNG’s Hilli FLNG unit.”
Perenco is the leading oil operator in Cameroon, with a production of 90,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (60% oil and 40% gas). The company is part of the Perenco Group, which operates in 14 countries and is based in the UK.
