Pakistan Says Sanctions Restricting Progress of Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline

International sanctions on Iran are main hurdles for Iran-Pakistan natural gas pipeline and if they are removed Pakistan could complete this project within 30 months, said Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, reports Daily Times.

He said Iran has been asked to revise timeline of the project in view of sanctions.

The minister stressed that there are many complications in Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project also and therefore main focus of the government is enhancing domestic production of gas, reports Daily Times.

For this purpose, gas policy has been revised, 50 blocks have been auctioned and more will be auctioned to improve domestic gas production, he said.

Government is focusing on shale gas and due to supply and demand of gap, import LNG is the only short-term solution, Daily Times quotes the minister as saying.
