Oz Tlou Moves Ahead With Botswana CBM Well
Australia-listed but Africa-focused Tlou Energy June 19 announced that the Lesedi 3 production well or ‘pod’ has reached critical desorption pressure, a stage where gas begins to come out of the coal after the dewatering process.
“Since the commencement of production testing, the dewatering process at Lesedi 3 and Lesedi 4 has steadily progressed with CDP recently being reached at Lesedi 3. The primary objective remains to demonstrate a commercial gas flow rate,” Tlou managing director Tony Gilby said.
The next stage of the operation at Lesedi 3 involves continued water pumping which should see the gas pressure steadily increase inside the casing to an optimal point so that flow testing and flaring of the gas can begin, Tlou said. Lesedi 4 continues to be dewatered.
The Lesedi project in Botswana covers about 3,800 km2 and consists of four coal and CBM prospecting licences (PL) and a mining licence. The latter area is the focal point for Tlou's operations and includes the Lesedi pilot wells and the Selemo pilot wells where Tlou had been flaring gas before the start of the drilling programme.
Tlou also has the Mamba project, adjacent to Lesedi, which consists of five coal and CBM PLs, covering about 4,500 km2. Earlier this year, Tlou was awarded a new prospecting CBM licence by the government of Botswana.
