Oz Sole Gas Pipeline Damaged
The pipeline which is planned to connect the Sole production wells offshore Victoria, Australia, to the Orbost Gas Plant has been damaged with repairs required but at this stage first commercial gas is still planned for July next year, Cooper Energy said November 12.
“The contractor has advised Cooper Energy that, whilst conducting the acceptance pressure test of the pipeline with water an anomaly was identified which has prevented the pipeline from holding internal pressure,” the company said, adding that there is an opening in the pipe itself.

The damage is being assessed and plans are being made for repair.
“Advice at this stage indicates the time required for repair is not expected to impact the date of first commercial gas sales planned for July 2019,” Cooper said.
Cooper, which holds 100% equity in the Sole gas field, is undertaking the A$355mn ($264mn) offshore development, while APA Group is conducting a A$250mn upgrade to the onshore Orbost Gas Processing Plant to enable processing of gas from sole.
The field is being developed to supply about 24 PJ of gas per year from mid-2019, with about 75% of the field’s reserves contracted to a range of utility and industrial customers including AGL Energy, EnergyAustralia, Alinta Energy and O-I.
