Oz EWC Gets Permit for Philippines LNG Hub

Oz-listed Energy World Corporation (EWC) January 2 said it has received a permit from the Philippines' department of energy to construct an LNG hub at Pagbilao Island.

The permit, issued December 21, forms an update on the original permit documentation and provides for a further construction period of 24 month from the permit issue date, EWC said, adding that this will allow the LNG hub’s first tank to be aligned with the commercial operation date of the associated 650-MW power plant and the NGCP switchyard expansion under construction and for the construction of the second tank.

The LNG facility, on Pagbilao Island in Quezon province, is some 90 km southeast of Manila and capable of handling up to 3mn metric tons/yr of LNG. That's enough to support up to 3 GW of gas fired power plants. The deep-water jetty can handle all sizes of LNG vessels. It will have two 130,000 m3 capacity storage tanks.

The hub terminal will support EWC’s adjacent 650-MW combined cycle gas fired power plant and provide expansion options for both its and third-party gas clients. The terminal will be run on a tolling model for third party clients.
