Oz East Coast LNG Exports in May Up 6%

The three LNG export projects in the Australian state of Queensland shipped 1.74mn metric tons of LNG in May, up over 6% year-on-year, latest data published by Gladstone Ports Corporate showed.

The three export projects are ConocoPhillips-Origin Energy Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG), Shell’s Queensland Curtis LNG and the Santos-led Gladstone LNG.  

China was the biggest buyer last month. Asia’s biggest economy imported 1.32mn mt of LNG in May, up from 1.08mn mt in the same month of previous year.

Malaysia, the second biggest importer last month, imported 0.18mn mt of LNG, up almost 199% year-on-year.

The third biggest importer of east coast LNG in May was South Korea, which imported 0.15mn mt of LNG, down from 0.3mn mt in the same month of last year, the data showed. 

In 2018, Queensland projects shipped record 20.57mn mt of LNG from Port of Gladstone, up 1.7% year-on-year.
