Osaka Gas, Sojitz Form Gas JV in Vietnam
Japan’s Osaka Gas and Sojitz Corporation have agreed to form a joint venture to supply natural gas to industrial customers in Vietnam, Osaka Gas said June 24.
Osaka Gas Singapore, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Osaka Gas, together with Sojitz Corporation and Sojitz Vietnam, will form Sojitz Osaka Gas Energy Company, with the aim of supplying natural gas in Vietnam.
The new company plans to supply gas to Phu My 3 specialised industrial park, in the southern Vietnamese province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. It will also supply CNG via trucks to industrial customers within Vietnam.
"The demand for energy continues to increase as a result of economic growth in Vietnam. There are multiple industrial zones in the southern region of Vietnam, where this project is slated to occur, in a concentrated area of heavy and chemical industries, with the further expectation that the region will also soon be home to new expansion for several manufacturing companies as well,” Osaka Gas said.
Osaka Gas has been gradually expanding its business in southeast Asia. The company is already present in Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia. This new venture also marks the third country, following on Singapore, and Thailand, for their engagement in natural gas supply work overseas.
