Origin Energy Backs Gas

Origin Energy chairman Kevin McCann has backed the long-term future of gas, saying it will transform the US economy and boost living standards in Asia, AAP reported.

Addressing company’s annual general meeting, McCann said that gas was a clean energy source that was good for the world. "Gas is no longer a transitional fuel, it is a fuel to stay," he said.

"Gas is going to be the source of energy for people in Asia and I don't think as a developed country we have the right to deny Asians a standard of living which we aspire to."

The chairman said coal seam gas could be extracted safely and there was acceptance among land owners and in the broader community, AAP report said.
