Orbost plant processes higher volumes in Jan

The average processing rate at the Orbost gas processing plant (OGPP), owned and operated by APA Group, was 46.5 terajoules/day in January, 5% higher than the prior month, Sydney-listed Cooper Energy said on February 8.

The Orbost plant processes gas from Cooper’s Sole gas field offshore Victoria for supply to customers in south-east Australia. The plant's performance has been impaired by foaming in the absorber section of the sulphur recovery unit and it has not been able to reach nameplate capacity.

“The higher average processing rate in January reflects improvements due to continued optimisation of the OGPP’s process parameters,” Cooper said. “Improvements are planned to continue in February, trialling processing rates above 50 terajoules/d from 7 February.”

Orbost plant Phase 2B works are scheduled to begin end-February. Cooper last year said it is exploring the option of buying the Orbost gas processing plant from APA.
