One dead after fire on Pemex platform
Mexican energy company Petroleos Mexicanos said August 22 that one person was dead and three injured following a fire at an offshore platform.
The company, known also as Pemex, reported that a fire broke out on the afternoon of August 22 at the E-Ku AS platform in the Campeche Sound, a bay just west of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Pemex said the blaze was under control about an hour after the incident was first reported. A search continues for any missing personnel, and damage assessment is underway.
“In addition, a root cause investigation will be conducted to determine the origin of the fire,” Pemex said.
This is the second such incident for Pemex in as many months. The company in July reported that a submarine fire near an offshore platform in the Gulf of Mexico was caused by a string of events during inclement weather, but stressed there were no spills.
That fire burned for about five hours off the Ku-C platform. An electrical storm with intense rain triggered an outage on a pneumatic pump at the same time that a leak was detected on pipelines tied to the platform.
Gas from the pipeline migrated from the seabed to the surface and a fire broke out as a result of the storm, the company said. The platform was situated off the northern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.
