OMV Backs Iran's Particpation in Nabucco
A director of Austrian oil and gas giant OMV AG says that Iran is the safest source for supplying Europe with gas.
Mehr News reports that Thomas McCulloch added that Iran has the world’s second largest natural gas reserves and it is not a correct decision to omit the country from Nabucco pipeline project.
McCulloch previously had expressed that his country is interested in joining Iran oil and gas ventures.
He had also claimed that his company’s presence in Iran in the past proves that they are not concerned about the West’s sanctions imposed on Iran and envisaged a bright future in cooperation with the Islamic Republic.
During a state visit to Azerbaijan this past November, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that natural gas from Iran is available for the European community if it meets "suitable conditions."
Iran has said it would like to ship its natural gas through Nabucco, however the pipeline's backers have said that the geopolitical climate is not right for Iranian participation.
