Oil Search Flows Gas from PNG Well
Australia-listed Oil Search’s Muruk-2 appraisal well, drilled on behalf of the ExxonMobil-operated PDL 9 joint venture in the Papua New Guinea Highlands, has confirmed presence of gas.
The well flowed at a maximum rate of 16.5mn ft3/day on a 52/64” choke, Oil Search said in its April drilling report. “This was impacted, as expected, by drilling-induced formation damage, caused by mud and other fluid losses into the reservoir, which materially reduced flow rates,” it added.
Oil Search has plugged and abandoned the well and the rig is being demobilised.
Participants in PDL 9 are Oil Search (Tumbudu) 24.4%; ExxonMobil 21.7%; Ampolex (PNG) 21.7%; Kumul Petroleum (Kroton) 20.5%; Nippon PNG LNG 9.7% and Gas Resources Juha No.1 2%.
