Oil and gas producers began shutting their offshore production on Tuesday, as Helene moved through the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Oil and natural gas production losses reached a peak of 511,000 barrels on Wednesday.

"Based on data from offshore operator reports submitted as of 11:30 a.m. CDT today, personnel have been evacuated from a total of three production platforms, 0.81% of the 371 manned platforms in the Gulf of Mexico," the BSEE said.
