Oil India Makes Gas Discovery in KG Basin
State-owned oil and gas explorer Oil India has made a gas discovery in an onland block in the state of Andhra Pradesh, it said June 25.
The discovery was made in the month of May in the Krishna Godvari basin block KG-ONN-2004/1. The gas discovery at well Thanelanka-1 is the second find in the block, Oil India said. Earlier, a gas discovery was made at well Dangeru-1 in the same block.
Thanelanka-1 is the first high pressure-high temperature well drilled by the company and has encountered multiple sands in Gollapalli Formation of Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous and one zone in Raghavapuram Formation of Intra Cretaceous. On testing the high pressure-high temperature zone flowed gas at the rate of 1,300 m3/d, Oil India said.
Oil India is India’s second largest gas producer after ONGC. In May, the company produced 227mn m3 of gas, down more than 7% compared with same month last year, according to data published June 20 by Indian oil ministry's Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC).
