OGDCL announces gas discovery in Pakistan's Punjab
The Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL), operator of the Mari East licence with a 100% working interest, on August 13 announced the discovery of gas from its exploratory well, Chak 202-1, located in Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab province.
Chak 202-1 was spudded on June 29 as an exploratory well and reached a depth of 1,956.50 m. Based on the results of wireline log interpretation, a drill stem test-1 in the Sui Main Limestone formation has tested 6.15mn ft3/day of gas.

This marks the second consecutive discovery in the Mari East block. “The discovery not only opens new avenues but also contributes significantly to bridging the energy demand-supply gap with indigenous resources, thereby enhancing the hydrocarbon reserves of OGDCL and the country,” the company stated.
Earlier this month, OGDCL announced a gas condensate discovery at the Razgir-1 exploratory well, located in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
