NYK Line targets net-zero by 2050 for oceangoing biz
Japanese shipping company NYK Line has set a long-term target of net-zero emissions of greenhouse gas (GHG) by 2050 for its oceangoing businesses, it said on September 30.
The group’s entire roadmap for GHG reduction, which includes non-oceangoing businesses, will be announced separately and prior its new medium-term management plan, which is scheduled to be released in fiscal 2022.

“NYK has been making efforts to reduce GHG emissions from ships, as well as achieve zero emissions, but in recent years the worldwide demand for decarbonisation has accelerated further in the oceangoing shipping industry,” it said. “In accordance with this worldwide demand, NYK has made a decision to establish this net-zero target so that the group can continue to be essential to society and industry.”
NYK said it will encourage new value creation as a sustainable solution provider by deepening cooperation not only within the group but also with stakeholders and accelerating initiatives for decarbonisation in the oceangoing shipping industry.
