NYK joins marine fuel decarbonisation project
Japanese shipping company NYK has joined a project aimed at decarbonising marine fuels used in existing vessels, the company said on May 13.
The international project is spearheaded by Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, a research institute that has NYK as one of its founding partners.

Through case studies on containerships, tankers, and bulkers, the project will "conduct technical, economical, and environmental assessments" for the decarbonisation of existing cargo ships that use heavy fuel oil as their primary fuel, NYK said.
“This project is one of the initiatives to realise the International Maritime Organisation’s medium- to long-term target for reducing greenhouse gases, and NYK will actively contribute,” it said.
