NYK JV Delivers LNGC to EDF

France LNG Shipping, a joint venture between Japan’s NYK Line and France’s Geogas LNG, on May 15 delivered LNG carrier Elisa Larus to EDF LNG Shipping, NYK said on May 18 in a statement. The vessel was built at South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.

For France LNG Shipping, this vessel is the first long-term contract with EDF LNG Shipping and will be engaged in LNG transportation for up to 20 years. The vessel has a 174,000 m3 capacity membrane-type cargo tank fitted with a GTT Mark III Flex cargo containment system and a dual-fuel slow-speed engine.

In addition, the vessel, classed by Bureau Veritas, has been awarded the French classification society’s cyber security notation, NYK said, adding this is the first such award of a cyber notation for an LNG carrier.

In January 2018, NYK Line had signed a contract with EDF LNG Shipping, a subsidiary of French EDF, to charter out a newly built LNG carrier for seven years, with optional extension periods for up to 13 additional years.
