Novinite: Bulgaria Mulls Permanent Ban on Hydrofracking Technology
The ban on the use of hydrofracking technology in the extraction and exploration of gas and oil in Bulgaria will be permanent.
The text is included in a draft proposal of the Parliamentary group of the ruling, center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, which will be submitted in the Parliament on Wednesday.
The proposal points out that the ban includes the use any technology involving the propagation of fractures in a rock layer caused by the presence of pressurized water or other fluid. It also bans extraction of shale gas, gas from coal, and of oil from sands on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria and its territorial waters.
