Norwegians Pioneer LNG Delivery Techniques

Norwegian firms this week announced innovations in LNG delivery techniques.

Oslo-based Connect LNG said October 10 that it conducted the first ever complete LNG transfer from a floating LNG ship to an onshore facility using its market-ready ‘Universal Transfer System’ (UTS), which it describes as a platform that can connect to any LNG carrier. The transfer was done on behalf of leading Spanish supplier Gas Natural Fenosa, which helped Connect in trials of its technology.

Separately, Norwegian small-scale LNG distributor Skangas said October 11 that its Coralius bunkering vessel, for the first time on the open seas, both cooled down tanks and delivered LNG in a single operation. The receiving vessel Navigator Aurora, an ethane/ethylene carrier, was supplied with just under 500 metric tons of LNG en route from Sweden to southern Europe. The complete operation took place just off Gothenburg in Sweden over 7-8 October 2017.

Skangas, which is 70%-owned by Finnish utility Gasum, also said last week that the Coralius bunkered LNG to oil products tanker Ternsund in the Port of Gothenburg – this was the first time that Coralius had bunkered in that port.
