Two weeks ago I wrote about the UK North Sea being a sleeper play for the global oil and gas industry.

And the last several days a number of data points emerged confirming the potential in this left-behind region.

The first indicator was a surge of new interest in the North Sea as part of the UK's 28th Offshore Licensing Round. Which saw a near-record number of new blocks handed out to some of the world's largest petroleum players.
