Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea Discuss Gas Flow

The energy ministers of neighbouring African countries, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea, met in the latter country's capital, Malabo, for talks that covered gas trade, according to a statement by the African Energy Chamber (AEC) February 23.

Equatorial Guinean Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima and Nigerian Timipre Sylva agreed to expedite joint cross-border co-operation for the supply of gas from Nigeria to Equatorial Guinea which will also be an opportunity for Equatorial Guinea's energy sector to see an additional step to its local content development plans, the statement said. 

The AEC said it believed that it was only through regional collaboration that ways can be found to monetise gas for domestic and international markets

The meeting included a signing of a memorandum of understanding which will consolidate new opportunities for the hydrocarbons sector for both countries. It will also allow the counterparts to collaborate on maritime piracy protection strategies as security remains a major concern for energy infrastructure. Attacks in the Gulf of Guinea are at a high.
