Naftogaz wins rights to Ukrainian gas field
UkrGasVydobuvannya (UGV), the upstream arm of Ukrainian national gas company Naftogaz, has won a 20-year permit to develop the Yuliivske gas field in the Kharkiv region, Ukraine's state geological service reported on April 21.
UGV offered 120.7mn hryvnias ($4.3mn) at auction for the field, double the starting price of 58.7mn hryvnias. The geological service's head, Roman Opimakh, noted that the deposit was well explored, and that there was a gas and condensate plant in operation at an adjacent field.
Permits were also offered for three other fields in the Poltava and Ivano-Frankivsk regions in central and western Ukraine respectively but attracted no interest. Another auction for these deposits will be held within three days.
UGV is Ukraine's largest gas producer, extracting 13.45bn m3 of marketable gas in 2020, down 1.2% year on year.
