Friedl News: Nabucco: EU Commission is in Doubt

Philip Lowe, director general of the Energy Department of the EU Commission, reaffirms that the Nabucco consortium still participates in the bidding process. However, the project competes with other cheaper projects. In the past, the EU Commission supported the Nabucco project in order to become more independent from Russian natural gas.

However, skepticism rose substantially in the last month. In February, the Commissioner Günter Oettinger explained that Nabucco was not essential. Lowe said that the Commission attempted to act more neutrally in order to separate commercial from political questions. Now, it would be the turn of the bidders.  MORE
