Japan's MOL, Jera sign LNGC charter deal

Japanese shipping major Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) on June 14 announced the signing of a long-term charter contract for a newbuilding LNG carrier (LNGC) with a vessel operation management company funded by energy company Jera.

This contract marks the fifth agreement between MOL and Jera, following previous time charter contracts for four LNG carriers. The new vessel will be constructed at the Geoje Shipyard of Hanwha Ocean in South Korea and is expected to be delivered in 2025. MOL will be responsible for the management of the vessel, which will transport LNG for Jera.

The new 174,000 m3 LNG carrier will be equipped with the latest MAN Energy Solutions engine (ME-GA), which improves fuel consumption efficiency and offers enhanced environmental friendliness compared to traditional LNG carriers, MOL said.
