Mitsubishi Power starts third gas turbine at Thailand CCGT
Mitsubishi Power announced on April 24 the commencement of operations for the third M701JAC gas turbine unit out of four at a natural gas-fired power plant in Thailand's Rayong Province.
The power plant, located approximately 130 km southeast of Bangkok, is a joint venture between Gulf Energy Development, Thailand's largest independent power producer, and Mitsui & Co.
With the successful commencement of operations for the third M701JAC unit, Mitsubishi Power has now delivered seven out of eight M701JAC units across two 2.65 GW CCGT power plants in Rayong and Chonburi provinces, boasting a collective output of 5.3 GW. Anticipated to be fully operational by fall 2024, all eight units of the completed power plants are poised to support the electricity needs of key industrial and economic hubs in the eastern region of Thailand.
Additionally, Mitsubishi Power has successfully initiated operations for one of two M701JAC gas turbines in a 1.4 GW natural gas-fired power plant operated by Hin Kong Power Company, a special purpose company jointly established by Ratch Group and Gulf Energy Development Public Company. The full operation of the second unit is scheduled for January 2025.
