Mitsubishi Power secure contract for Japanese CCGTs
Mitsubishi Power, a unit of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), has been awarded a full-turnkey contract by Tokyo Gas for the construction of three combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plants with 650 MW class natural gas-fired units in Sodegaura City, Chiba Prefecture, MHI announced on July 21.
The plants are being developed by Chiba-Sodegaura Power, a unit of Tokyo Gas. The power plants will utilise M701JAC gas turbines. The project aims to consider future decarbonisation right from the construction stage, and the gas turbines will be capable of hydrogen co-firing, MHI said.
The project is a joint venture between MHI and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, covering engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). MHI will supply gas turbines, steam turbines, heat recovery steam generators, and flue gas desulfurisation systems, while Mitsubishi Electric will provide generators and electrical products.
Commencing commercial operation successively from the 2029 fiscal year, Mitsubishi Power will support Chiba-Sodegaura Power through a full-scope long-term service agreement to ensure reliable power supplies.
