Mitsubishi Names Sayaringo STaGE LNG Carrier

Japan’s Mitsubishi Shipbuilding October 25 held a naming ceremony for a next-generation LNG carrier under construction for MOG-X LNG Shipholding, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsui OSK Lines, it said the same day.

The ship, named LNG Juno, is the third Sayaringo STaGE (Steam Turbine and Gas Engines) type vessel, and is Mitsubishi Shipbuilding's newest carrier to feature significant improvements in both LNG carrying capacity and fuel performance through adoption of a more efficient hull structure and an innovative hybrid propulsion system, the company said. The Sayaringo STaGE is a successor to the Sayaendo class, which adopts the apple-shaped tanks and hybrid propulsion system functionality named STaGE.

LNG Juno will transport LNG from the Freeport LNG Project in the US state of Texas to Japan.

The naming ceremony was held at the Koyagi Plant of Mitsubishi's Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works. The vessel’s tanks have a total holding capacity of 180,000 m3.
