Mitsubishi Heavy bags CCGT FEED contract in Scotland
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), Mitsubishi Power and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engineering (MHIENG) have jointly been awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant and CO2 capture plant planned at the Peterhead power station in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, MHI said on August 30.
For the execution of the FEED, MHI and MHIENG will work with Worley and Tecnicas Reunidas to deliver the engineering design of MHI’s M701JAC gas turbine, and MHIENG’s Advanced KM CDR process developed together with Kansai Electric Power.
The power plant project at Aberdeenshire is being developed jointly by UK power provider SSE Thermal and Norway-based Equinor Energy. The plant is expected to capture up to 1.5mn metric tons/year of CO2. The captured CO2 would be transported and sequestered underground in the North Sea. The project is looking to achieve commercial-scale CO2 capture and storage from the GTCC plant’s flue-gas emissions, MHI said.
