McDermott nabs work on Philippines regas terminal

Engineering firm McDermott International said April 14 it was tapped to help build storage facilities for what will be the first LNG import and regasification terminal in the Philippines.

McDermott’s CB&I Storage Solutions was awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from Atlantic Gulf and Pacific (AG&P) of Manila to build LNG storage facilities for its planned regasification terminal in Batangas, Philippines.

Under the terms of the contract, CB&I will supply the first of two 60,000 m3 steel storage tanks, along with any associated commissioning activities or geotechnical surveys.

“The design of this first-of-a-kind full containment steel LNG tank highlights our innovation and technology leadership in the LNG storage industry and positions CB&I Storage Solutions to serve the growing small-scale LNG market in Asia and other regions with similar demands," Cesar Canals, a senior vice president at CB&I, said.

AG&P on March 7 said it received consent from the government in the Philippines to develop the LNG import and regasification terminal in Batangas Bay. The project, Philippines LNG, will have an initial import capacity of 3mn mt/yr.

McDermott said it expected to complete the work for AG&P by Q3 2023.
