McDermott completes subsea campaign for Bayu-Undan gas field
Services company McDermott International has completed the work under its first subsea, engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract with Santos for the Bayu-Undan Infill Well Phase 3C project in the Timor Sea, it said on March 10.
The Bayu-Undan field is one of Timor-Leste's largest gas fields. Work on the Phase 3C project started in May and concluded in December 2021. McDermott's scope involved a tieback of a single in-field well to existing facilities, re-using existing flexible flowline, with a new umbilical and certain infrastructure.

The project, given a final investment decision in January last year, comprises three production wells and will develop additional natural gas and liquids reserves.
According to Santos, the project would add more than 20mn barrels of oil equivalent reserves, extending the life of Bayu-Undan, and cutting the reductions expected before the Barossa gas project comes online.
Santos is the operator of the Barossa project and announced the final investment decision to proceed with the project in March last year. First gas from Barossa to backfill Darwin LNG is expected in the first half of 2025.
