Malaysia's SapuraKencana Wins Tanap Contract
SapuraKencana Petroleum, a listed Malaysian oil and gas company, has won a contract for the TransAnatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (Tanap) which will ship Azeri gas to Turkey. According to a statement, it has won the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract of offshore pipelines and fibre optic cables, for a cost of $125.9mn.
It will work at the Dardanelles Strait in the Sea of Marmara. The project is scheduled to start in Q3 2016 and end in Q3 2018, according to the statement.
"This contract win demonstrates that our transformation and strategies are continuing to enhance our competitiveness globally. Our cost reduction efforts and increased operational effectiveness have driven this enhanced competitiveness that has helped us to secure our latest wins in Mexico and Tanap, both totalling just under $250mn. These wins will contribute positively to the group’s performance," said the CEO, Tan Sri Dato Seri Shahril Shamsuddin.
Tanap is a strategic natural gas pipeline project that links the two continents of Europe and Asia, supplying natural gas from the Southern Gas Corridor project in Azerbaijan through Georgia and Turkey and onwards to Europe.
It is 58% owned by the Azeri Socar, 30% owned by stated-owned Turkish Botas and 12% owned by the UK major BP.
