Maersk partners with Chinese classification society on carbon-neutral tech
Danish shipping group AP Moller - Maersk has signed three agreements with China Classification Society (CCS) to cooperate in developing low-carbon technologies, the company said on September 27.
Maersk aspires to become a net-zero emissions company by 2050. As part of this effort, it has ordered eight containerships that will run on low-carbon methanol, with the first vessel due to be delivered in the first quarter of 2024.

The agreements, which are valid for an initial two-year term, "mainly focus on scientific and technological innovation projects, lifecycle green fuel availability and infrastructure, as well as design for carbon-neutral vessels," Maersk said, adding that research institutes would be invited to take part in the project.
