Maersk Drilling secures $34mn contract in Malaysia
Maersk Drilling has secured a $34mn contract with Shell to drill four development wells at the Gumusut-Kakap oil and gas project offshore Malaysia, it said on April 7.
The company will deploy its 7th generation drillship Maersk Viking to drill the wells. Maersk Viking is a high-spec ultra-deepwater drillship that was delivered in 2013. It is currently operating offshore Brunei Darussalam.

The contract is expected to start in December this year, with an estimated duration of 150 days. The contract includes five additional one-well options for work offshore Malaysia, the Philippines, and Brunei Darussalam.
The Gumusut-Kakap fields are located within blocks J and K, about 120km offshore from Sabah, Malaysia. The water depth is in the region is 1,200 m.
