Macedonia Readies for South Stream

Macedonia is ready to join its energy partners in Russia as a transit nation for the South Stream natural gas pipeline, the country's prime minister said.

Macedonia Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said during a meeting in Kiev that his country was ready to set the stage to host the Russian gas pipeline.

"During this time we intend to create the infrastructure on our territory," he was quoted by Russian news agency ITAR-Tass as saying.

He added that Ukrainian companies were designing the gas transit facilities in Macedonia to host South Stream.

Gruevski added that the decision to join the project translated into cheaper and more reliable energy resources for his country.
